House of Wisdom delegation from Sharjah visits the National Library
On Friday, 29 May 2026, the National Library was visited by a delegation from the House of Wisdom, a library and cultural centre in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The delegation was headed by the library’s Director, Marwa Al Aqroubi, and also included Ali Al Shemmari, Head of Institutional and International Cooperation, and Uche Anthony, responsible for relations with public institutions. The guests met with the Director of the National Library, Dr Tomasz Makowski, and toured the reading rooms of the National Library as well as the Palace of the Commonwealth.
During the meeting with Dr Tomasz Makowski, the participants discussed opportunities for cooperation between the two libraries, including in connection with planned international conferences. The Director of the National Library also presented the current activities of the institution. Marwa Al Aqroubi spoke about the history of the House of Wisdom and the impact of its activities on the residents of Sharjah.
The guests were guided through the reading rooms of the National Library and the Palace of the Commonwealth by Julia Konopka-Żołnierczuk, Deputy Director of the National Library. During the visit, she introduced the history of the National Library and its collections, and presented some of the most interesting objects from the permanent exhibition at the Palace of the Commonwealth. The guests also took part in a special presentation of publications related to Arab culture from the National Library’s collections, prepared by Dr Maciej Szablewski, the Director’s Representative for International Affairs and Head of the Department of Access to Collections, together with Justyna Król-Próba, Head of the Institute for the Conservation of Library Collections at the National Library.
