Delegation of the Republic of Kosovo visits the National Library
On Thursday, 28 May 2026, an official delegation of the Republic of Kosovo visited the National Library. The delegation included Drilon S. Gashi, Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Poland; Dr Blerinë Rogova Gaxha, Director of the National Library of Kosovo “Pjetër Bogdani”; and writer Arben Idrizi, a candidate for the 2026 European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL). The guests met with Dr Tomasz Makowski, Director of the National Library, and toured the reading rooms of the National Library.
The delegation was welcomed by Dr Maciej Szablewski, the Director’s Representative for International Affairs and Head of the Department of Access to Collections, who guided the guests through the reading rooms, presenting the organisation of work and the principles of providing access to the collections. He also introduced the history of the National Library and spoke about the most important projects currently being carried out by the institution. The delegation then met with Dr Tomasz Makowski, Director of the National Library.
During the meeting, the participants discussed opportunities for establishing cooperation between the national libraries of Poland and Kosovo, as well as for exchanging experience in the organisation of modern library services, digitisation and cataloguing of collections. Particular attention was devoted to the planned modernisation of the seat of the National Library of Kosovo and preparations for the conference inaugurating the central library catalogue project, which is intended to connect the National Library of Kosovo with all public libraries in the country. The event will take place on 1 June 2026 in Pristina.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss the development of cultural and library cooperation between Poland and Kosovo, as well as the role of national libraries as institutions supporting the protection of cultural heritage, the development of readership and the international exchange of experience.
