The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Ministers of the Council of the Baltic Sea States at the Palace of the Commonwealth

At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, an informal meeting of the Council of the Baltic Sea States was held on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, in the representative interiors of the Palace of the Commonwealth. The meeting was attended by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and nine foreign ministers of the Baltic Sea states. The session began with remarks by the Director of the National Library of Poland, Tomasz Makowski, followed by a presentation of some of the Library’s most valuable treasures, including the urn containing the ashes of the burned National Library of Poland.

“We mainly discussed issues concerning our region and the war in Ukraine. First, the internal policy of NATO and NATO itself in the context of the upcoming Alliance summit in Ankara. Second, how to support Ukraine in negotiations on its future and on ending Russian aggression against Ukraine. Third, the prospects for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union” said Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski during a press conference at the Palace of the Commonwealth. More information about the meeting can be found on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and on Facebook.

The halls of the Palace of the Commonwealth provided not only a fitting setting for this international event, but also an opportunity to present the cultural heritage preserved in the collections of the National Library of Poland. Diplomats and guests were invited to tour the Palace of the Commonwealth and had the opportunity to view exhibitions presenting the most valuable monuments of written heritage, manuscripts, early printed books, and objects of particular significance to history and culture.

Exhibitions at the Palace of the Commonwealth are open to the public free of charge every day except Tuesdays, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. We encourage visitors to explore palacrzeczypospolitej.pl, where detailed information about visiting the Palace can be found.
