Inauguration of the European Authors’ Day 2025 - Read. For Real!
November 11 saw, across Europe, the celebrations of the European Authors’ Day a festival of literature, its creators and readers, under the theme Read. For Real! This year’s event gathers over 200K participants from 25 countries. A broad platform of almost 3600 initiatives will, through December 12, 2025 enable participation in meetings with authors, workshops, family reading sessions and local actions promoting readership.
During the inauguration dr Tomasz Makowski, Director General of the National Library of Poland and Chair of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries spoke about the importance of reading. Important themes of his speech became one of the strongest accents of the event:
Let us discover books not only to get to know them, but also to understand them. The Read. For Real project is yet another important initiative which welcomes to do that. We must meet the first book in our life which will make us want to reach out for further ones, to love reading and become readers who are aware, critical, but also open – to the world and people. There is such a book waiting for everyone. We may meet it unexpectedly. That is why books should be a part of our everyday life, our surroundings, available physically in many places we reach. Let us talk about books and let us buy them as gifts.
